New Research: Doctors are Better than Self Symptom Checkers

· In the News ·

According to a recent article published by Huffington Post, doctors are much better than symptom-checker programs at reaching a correct diagnosis. Researchers found in a head-to-head comparison, human doctors with access to the same information about medical history and symptoms as was put into a symptom checker got the diagnosis right 72% of the time, compared to 34% for the apps. Although the internet is convenient, it is important to remember doctors are taught in medical school to consider broad diagnoses which include rare conditions and life-threatening diagnoses.
