Hospital Opens Bar = Solving Healthcare Problems

· In the News ·

Northrop University Hospital in New York recently opened a bar in their lobby. The CFO, Tipsy Buzzington, said, “The establishment welcomes employees, patients, families, and everyone who feels like a drink when they step out of the hospital, which is EVERYBODY.” Buzzington continues, “Look, Medicaid pays $18 dollars for a heart cath.  We can’t keep the lights on with that, but check out our Code Mellow or Bacardiac Spasm, delicious party bowls of spirits and tropical juices!  We charge $34 for each.  See that table of three ICU nurses? They’re on their fifth!  Cha-ching!”

Buzzington goes on to share while the initial idea was purely financial, additional bar benefits became apparent immediately.  Employee morale has skyrocketed and sick days are taken less frequently. Patient mortality has dipped and patient satisfaction has never been higher.

What are your thoughts on this idea?

National Rural Health Day!

· In the News ·

National Rural Health Day is an opportunity to “Celebrate the Power of Rural” by honoring the selfless, community-minded, “can do” spirit that prevails in rural America. It also gives a chance to bring awareness to the unique healthcare challenges that rural citizens face.

Rural communities are wonderful places to live and work, which is why nearly 62 million people – nearly one in five Americans – call them home. These small towns, farming communities and frontier areas are places where neighbors know each other, listen to each other, respect each other and work together to benefit the greater good. These communities provide the rest of the country with a wealth of services and commodities, and they are the economic engine that has helped the United State become the world economic power it is today.

Today more than ever, rural communities must address accessibility issues, a lack of healthcare providers, the needs of an aging population suffering from a greater number of chronic conditions, and larger percentages of un- and under- insured citizens. And rural hospitals – which are often the economic foundation of their communities in addition to being the primary providers of care – struggle daily as declining reimbursement rates and disproportionate funding levels make it challenging to serve their residents. Take a minute to think about how you can help address these issues and bring power back rural America.

RPM would like to thank all of our partners who make it possible to empower rural health!

Hospital Turns to GoFundMe

· In the News ·

In a recent article published by HealhcareDive.com, Pauls Valley Hospital in rural Oklahoma was having some difficulties maintaining payroll while paying some of its debt. So, their new CEO, Frank Avignone turned to GoFundMe and the community, asking them to open their wallets to keep the facility open. Avignone mentions in the GoFundMe page, if the hospital closes, patients will have to travel at least 30 minutes to another acute-care facility.

What are thoughts on turning to GoFundMe for help to keep the hospital afloat? Pauls Valley Hospital is not the only rural community suffering. So far in 2018, there have been 5 hospital closures, according to the data tallied by the University’s Sheps Center and a total of 88 rural hospitals have closed in 2010.

Update: As on October 23, 2018, Pauls Valley Hospital received $3840 of their $2,000,000 goal.
