In a recent article published by HealhcareDive.com, Pauls Valley Hospital in rural Oklahoma was having some difficulties maintaining payroll while paying some of its debt. So, their new CEO, Frank Avignone turned to GoFundMe and the community, asking them to open their wallets to keep the facility open. Avignone mentions in the GoFundMe page, if the hospital closes, patients will have to travel at least 30 minutes to another acute-care facility.
What are thoughts on turning to GoFundMe for help to keep the hospital afloat? Pauls Valley Hospital is not the only rural community suffering. So far in 2018, there have been 5 hospital closures, according to the data tallied by the University’s Sheps Center and a total of 88 rural hospitals have closed in 2010.
Update: As on October 23, 2018, Pauls Valley Hospital received $3840 of their $2,000,000 goal.
